The Future

Well, recently the world has entered the New Millenium and, despite everyone's expectations to the contrary, the world has not changed that much. When all the professors and boffins get around to announcing their world-revolutionising inventions and discoveries (later this year, probably) what will the world be like then?
Let us take a peek through our Time Telescope and find out...

Bullet of the Future
Time
Well, we've entered the New Millenium already, so we'll be referring to this new Time of Change as "The New Billenium", just so people don't get confused. Plus, what with a Billion being over ten times bigger than a Million, we can be sure that everything in our lives will be at least 1000% better!
Bullet of the Future
Clothing
As predicted by many, we will indeed be wearing silver clothing. In fact, most clothing will be made from a flexible polymer that looks very much like our modern-day tin foil, but without the tendency to tear down the middle. This material, which we will call "PolyBiSilveranganoid", will help protect our bodies from the dangerous UV-rays (or "Ultra-Violent Rays") from the sun: In The New Billenium the sun will have grown by at least 17% and its UV-rays will be much bigger and more dangerous and, without our PolyBiSilveranganoid clothing, the average person would only be able to stand outside for a few moments in the harsh sunlight before dying.
Hats will be constructed out of pieces of twirly, stylishly tangled wire, whilst all shoes will have soles at least three inches thick.
Bullet of the Future
Hair Styles
60's style bobcuts will be heavily in fashion, for men and women, as will, for a brief time, baldness. All hair will be dyed black, silver, green or orange (these being the only colours that reflect UV-rays) and governmental laws will restrict hair lengths to be less than 8 inches long (unless, of course, you live underwater).
Bullet of the Future
Countries
World War 4 (or, as it will be known, "Super War IV", or "SWIV" for short) will, both fortunately and unfortunately, be the end of countries around the world as we know it. After civilisation picks up the pieces from this devestating "Micro War" a single "Super-State" will be formed, covering the entire planet (which will be renamed to "EarthWorld"). All peoples will be governed by the same laws and the "Law Enforcement Troopers" (or, as we will be calling them, "Letties") will maintain peace for everyone across the whole world.
Leaders of EarthWorld will be selected at birth by carefully scanning each newborn's DNA and choosing those with high leadership and diplomacy potentials. These candidates will be raised in a sealed off underground bunker (named the "Emperorium"), where the fittest will be released to govern the planet.
Bullet of the Future
Living Conditions
Due to the drop in the world population caused by SWIV, living conditions will much improve. Humans will live in huge tower blocks (generally 500 stories high) in many "Cityzen Zones" about the world. About these Cityzen Zones will be huge expanses of wilderness and carefully cultivated forests where the animals of the world will live in peace.
Each person in the world will be allocated a flat (or "Designated Personnel Habitat") upon reaching their 15th birthday. These DPHs will generally contain, for a single person, one "Sleeping Domicile", one "Recreational Room", one "Recycling Unit" (a combination of Kitchen, Toilet and Bathroom), and one Balcony, and about the DPH will be many robots (or, due to the mechanical AI unrests that will grind the world to a halt many years beforehand, "Automated Sentient Assistants" as we will be calling them). These ASAs will perform many duties, including sweeping the floor, cooking meals and making the beds.
The only Cityzen Zones that will not contain such luxuries will be those underwater.
Bullet of the Future
Underwater
Several Cityzen Zones will be constructed beneath the waves at the beginning of The New Billenium. These Cityzen Zones will be created inside gigantic bubbles of transparent "PolyMetals", deep beneath the waves. Many people will move to them but, as the world above surface evolves more towards a civilsation of love and understanding, the people beneath the seas will not follow in all respects. The main difference will be that of eating preferences: Whilst those above the sea will turn to Vegannism, those underwater will continue to hunt shoals of fish and whales for food, using little more than their spears and tridents.
However, the underwater civilisation will still evolve, just in different ways to that above the surface. As the water reflects many of the harmful UV-Rays, those living underwater need not rely on PolyBiSilveranganoid clothing. Instead, their underwater vehicles and breathing suits will be constructed solely from Bronze, Copper and Brass, whilst the clothing worn inside the giant bubbles will be made from seaweed and algae.
The phrase "Aquatoid" will be used in a derogatory sense by the people living on dry land to refer to underwater colonists.
Bullet of the Future
Food
Back on dry land, there will be two choices for the people of the world as to what they would like to eat for each meal. One, of course, will be a "Dose", a single white pill containing all the nutrients, vitamins, etc. that the body will require for a single eight hour period. The other option will be to "Beam" themselves a meal: Doing this will utilise the latest in "Quantum Mechanical Microwave" technology. Small nuclear reactors built into houshold QMMs will allow people (or their ASAs) to immediately Beam the matter required for a single meal into their houses, whilst also cooking it at the same time.

(And if you think I truly believe all this, you're a bigger fool than I am...)

When I get around to it, I'll be adding more details. And if you have any questions as to what The Future will be like in certain ways, e-mail me at the address below and I'll detail the specifics here!
